Biology news , 267 new plant species discovered in 2021.

 The botanical survey of India (BSI) , the country apex taxonomic research organisation, had discovered 267 new plant species last year.  Of these , 202 are  new to science, while 65 others have been reported from India. As listed in the BSI's Plant Discoveries 2021 released by the environment ministry the new discoveries included 119 species of seed plant, 57 species of fungi, 44 species of lichens, 21 species of algae, 18 species of microbes , five species of neophytes and three species of fern and fern allies.

Note... flora is mainly concentrated in three major centres Viz. The Himalayas, the western ghats  and Andman and Nicobar islands. Which are part of four of the 34 identified global biodiversity hotspots.
